About Little Sun Studios

Little Sun Studios was founded by me, Abbey, in 2025. It’s a Vancouver-based creative space (located on the unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations) dedicated to making and connection. Through the studio, I create small-batch prints and ceramics, and host welcoming, low-pressure workshops.

Guided by community, curiosity, and the belief that art should be joyful and inclusive, Little Sun Studios reflects my core values as an artist and is truly my greatest pride and joy. I currently operate out of the James Black Gallery, you can also find me at various events across the city - check my website homepage or Instagram for the latest updates.

About the Name and Branding

The name and branding is inspired by my favourite poem and my lovely grandmother.

Way back when I was an angsty teenaged a poem by Beau Taplin came up on my Tumblr feed:

“Rise and shine-

I’ve always held

such a fondness

for that sweet old phrase,

as though we

are all little suns,

as though we

are all someone’s day.”

- Beau Taplin

Those words really stuck with me. I love the idea of us all being little suns, little lights in this world. I even had the poem written out and taped to the wall of my first apartment! So when it came time to come up with a name for my studio practice the answer was obvious: Little Suns + Art Studio = Little Sun Studios.

Now the sun part of the logo is pretty obvious given the name. However, the spiral part in the center is an ode to my Grandma. My Grandmothers always been a crafty, creative person and ever since I can remember she’s put spirals on everything. Her influence has been a constant source of inspiration and she’s a big part of why I am who I am today. It’s an honour to be able to pay tribute to her in this way.

About Abbey

Abbey Nevin is a queer, self-taught interdisciplinary artist working primarily in ceramics and printmaking. Originally from Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, her work brings a sense of joy and whimsy while exploring themes of connection, community, and mental health. Abbey creates art that reflects on vulnerability, belonging, and the quiet ways people support one another. Her practice seeks to bring a smile to those it touches by embracing playfulness and imperfection.

While Abbey describes herself as self-taught, her practice has been shaped by the artists, friends, and community members around her. Abbey is grateful for the many role models who have shared knowledge, encouragement, and inspiration. Her community-rooted approach continues to guide her artmaking.

In 2025, Abbey founded Little Sun Studios as a space for making and connection. Through her studio, she produces small-batch prints, ceramics, and handmade objects that have been displayed in several shows in BC and Ontario. Abbey also hosts workshops committed to providing a welcoming, low-pressure space to learn new skills. Participants are invited to connect with new people in their community while exploring and experimenting artistically. She likes to remind her students that perfection is not the goal. Quirks and flaws make a piece handmade, reminding us a person invested time and effort: imperfection, in itself, is beautiful.

Based in Vancouver, Abbey maintains a studio at the James Black Gallery in addition to her independent practice as a Registered Massage Therapist. Living and working on the unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, Abbey draws inspiration from the surrounding landscape and communities, shaping a practice grounded in curiosity, care, and connection.
